| The Popular Party was founded in
1989 with the coming together of moderate democratic political forces in
the liberal, Christian democrat, conservative and regionalist mould. Since
then, many others have joined its ranks. |
| The Popular Party is now the second
largest political party in the Historical Territory of Vizcaya, with almost
20% of the vote and a large number of elected representatives at various
institutions: |
|
| 2004 General elections |
2 Deputies (of 9)
1 Senator (Basque Country) |
| 2004 Europe elections |
2 Eurodeputies |
| 2005 Regional autonomic elections |
5 Members of parliament (of
25) |
| 2007 Municipal elections |
68 Councillors in municipalities |
| 2007 Provincial elections |
8 Representatives (of 51) |
|
| The Vizcaya Popular Party
stands in its Historical Territory for the moderate option defended by the
Popular Party throughout Spain. |
| |
|
|
| The Popular Party is in favour
of political, economic and social development in Vizcaya, the Basque Country
and Spain as a whole within the democratic, pluralist framework represented
by the Constitution and the Statute of Autonomy. |
| For the Popular Party the Statute
of Gernika and the Constitution provide the basic political structure to
ensure a future of development and peaceful coexistence for the whole of
Basque society. |
| The Vizcaya Popular party defends a pluralist,
dynamic view of society, free from any dogmatic insistence on making reality
conform to homogenous patterns. For the Popular Party politics must be at
the service of the people, and not vice versa, as the terrorist organisation
ETA attempts to assert through murder and coercion. |
